Our last leg of the trip was spent in Gary, Indiana with my Mom's side of the family. I was SO excited that my Uncle Doug was in a musical and we were able to work it out to be up there so we could see him perform. I have seen him perform, of course, but Dustin hadn't had the opportunity yet. (Besides singing at our wedding, but that's not quite the same!) This was a small musical called A Year in the Life of Frog and Toad. He was the best toad there ever was! We really enjoyed seeing him doing (one of the things) that his is so good at.
This is Nana and Spot... Spot has been sitting on the back-back room bed since I can remember. Nana brought him out every time we came to visit when I was growing up and I am so glad that she still has him for Rachel to enjoy, even though she was a little scared at first. But after giving Nana cheerios to give to Spot, she finally warmed up to him. She even gave him a kiss goodbye when we left!
We went to a local park with Nana and Grandpa, too. Of course Rachel loved it! She went everywhere and acted like such a big girl.
Hannah came by to play for a while with us!
Thursday night we had a little bit of excitement. When we were getting ready for dinner, Rachel snuck up behind Nana and they had a little run in. They both went down and Nana fell against the corner of the cabinet and sliced right below her eyebrow. I wasn't concerned with Rachel because I thought she was just scared. I helped get Nana cleaned up while Daddy held Rachel. After a few minutes, Nana was OK, but Rachel cried when we touched her shoulder. Ethan had been texting Aunt Laura, so she came over to check things out. She went with us to the Emergency Room and was a great person to have to talk with and ease the tension a little bit. Rachel's collarbone ended up being broken :( Poor thing was just pitiful. Of course we didn't have the camera with us. Mommy of course got pushed to the back burner when she cried for Daddy. They wrapped her arm up so she couldn't move it, and said just to call her pediatrician when we got home and give her tylenol and ibuprofen to help with pain.
We got back to the house and Grandpa took over (something about men, I don't know!)
This is how we spent that night... could have sworn we had a newborn on our hands. We switched from the couch to holding her in the recliner every 2 hours or so. She would just try and roll on her left shoulder and wake up. The next night was a lot better. It also helped that one of the biggest prayer warriors that I know was in the next room praying every time he heard her cry out. Grandpa, you are an amazing man- Thank You!
Looking a little like Linus.
I don't have any pictures of Nana's eye. She ended up going to the doctor the next day and found out that she fractured the bone right below her eye socket and some blood draining in her sinuses. She had one great shiner, too! She is cleared from the doctor for a month.
All in all, we had a really good time, even though some of it was spent nursing some injuries! Next trip will be better, I'm sure!
Update for Rachel- We went to the doctor when we got back home and he said that the rule of thumb is "if the collarbone is in the body, it will heal on it's own." OK... if you say so. He said to take the wrap off her arm and just let her go on. He said if it hurts her, she'll stop doing it. Every once in a while she'll push or pull with that arm and she'll cringe a little and we can tell that she isn't using it as much as usual, but she's doing Great!
